My Challenge Card

Here is my card. I have used the colours Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss, Basic Grey and whisper white. The new stamp sets used are Fifth Avenue Floral and On Your Birthday. I have also used a Baja Breeze button from the Button Bouquet Designer button pack and Basic Grey Taffeta Ribbon. Does anyone else have a card to share?

A Well Overdue Challenge!

Ok, ok we have had a huge break from challenges so I thought I would put one up. It has been a while so I will go easy on everyone.

The challenge is to simply use some of the new things in the catalogue. I don't mind what you use but you also have to at least use one of the new In colours.

For the girls in the Cardinal Stampers Team that are coming to my house on Saturday, you are welcome to use my In Colour inks (if you don't already have them). I have all but the Tangerine Tango but Zarna has told me she will bring hers so we are set.

If you want to participate you can do so up until the end of April. Have fun!

Hi everyone! Zarna here for the new Cardinal Stampers Challenge & this time I thought I'd give you a challenge that celebrates the official launch of the Summer 08 Mini Catalogue!
For this challenge you will need to:
Use the card above (from page 19 in the Mini Catalogue) as your sketch, however you will need to use the colour combo of Certainly Celery, Regal Rose, So Saffron & Almost Amethyst. You should also pick a different stamp set. Bonus points if you use a stamp set from the new mini :o)

Lisa's Challenge #4 Entry

I know I am late with my entry but I was away for most of last week so this is the first chance I have had to play along. I don't know if I would class this as a masculine page but it was the closest I could do with the photo's that I had to choose from (no time to get any more printed). At least I have sort of stuck to the layout. Thanks Chenoa for giving me an excuse to scrapbook again. I had a lot of fun. I think I still need to add some journaling to the page but I am not sure what I will do yet.

The colours I have used here are Chocolate Chip, Soft Sky, Purely Pomegranate and Whisper White. I have used SU 12 X 12 textured cardstock for everything except the photo mat. The word "Proud" has been stamped on the Holiday Harmony DSP in Chocolate Chip ink using the Big Deal Alphabet. The word Dad is the same except it was stamped on whisper white CS and cut out. The small circle in the middle of the page and the word "NEW" is chipboard from the from the On Board Lots of Letters Pack. The circle has been covered in Holiday Harmony DSP with Tombow Mono Multi Liquid glue (coming soon in the new mini) and I have applied a rub on from the Cherished Memories Pack (20% off in November). For the word "new" I sponged the letters in whisper white craft ink and embossed them with clear EP. I have used the white gel pen for some faux stitching and to write the date at the bottom of the page. The line and No1 at the top of the page is from the Urban West Rub On pack.

The non SU tools I have used for this page are the creative memories Circle Cutting System and 12 inch Decorative Trimmer for the wavy lines at the bottom of the page.

Recipe: Gosh, where do I begin? I need to look on other sites and see what other people write, how detailed they go. How about I group things;

~ papers - Cardstock is More Mustard (textured), there are 2 types of patterned papers...the green one at the top is from Bali Breeze and the green and white one down the bottom is from Afternoon Tea. I also have plain Naturals Ivory (under the 'f') and Old Olive paper cut in a fringe under 'freedom'. I used White Vellum to stamp 'last day of' on, and the patterned paper with the date on it is from an old retired set called Notations.

~ stamps - I used Jumbo Outline Alphabet for 'last day of', Office Accoutrement for the date stamp, Baroque Motifs for the front of my hidden journelling pocket (above 'om' of 'freedom'), and Live Your Dream for the flowers in the hidden journelling pocket.

~ ribbons - medium Twill Tape for the bottom strip, Black and Natural Hemp Twine for the hidden journelling pocket, Silver Cord around the 'freedom' letters (from last year's Idea Book & Catalogue), and ric-rac (spelling?) from the Beachfront Ribbon Originals set (under the word 'freedom')

~ rub-ons - the black on the Twill Tape, circle around the date, and circles of writing and flowers on the photo are all from Love Birds, and the white rub-ons on the ticket embellishment at the top of the photo are from the Urban West set.

~ lettering - various from the On Board Lots of Letters set, the On Board Simon Lower set, and, in the top of the journelling pocket is a rectangle from the On Board Accents set.

~ tags - the ticket embellishment is from the retired Pockets and Pieces set and the journelling pocket is from the retired Saddle Stitch Book Kit (not real helpful to everyone using retired products hey? Have to use them up somewhere though and demonstrations are not the place! lol)

~ ink - I used the Old Olive marker to colour in the word 'day', the Basic Black stampin' pad for the journelling pocket detail, the flowers inside, the 'last day of' lettering, and the date stamp, and the Basic Black ink refill bottle to paint the chipboard letters.

~ adhesives - plain ol' SNAIL Adhesive and Stampin' Dimensionals to raise the chipboard letters.

Phew! Is that enough detail? Someone needs to guide me through what to write, can't keep doing this much, I'll put you all to sleep!

Ok, I'm off. Looking forward to seeing everyone else's creations.

Hooray I have caught up to this weeks challenge! Here is my girly card for Challenge #3.

Recipe: I used the colours prescribed, a flower from the pretties kit, a few punches (to round the corners, make the scallop edges, and the 1 3/8" circle punch as a window. The sentiment is from the Urban West rub ons and the ribbon from Beachfront ribbon originals. Hmmm, what else? The paper covering the chipboard circle is from Afternoon tea PP and the button from the soft subtles range. Very rare for me to make something without a lick of stamping on it but there you are!

This colour combination (well, similar) is one of my favourites. Here are a couple of birthday cards I made earlier in the year. They're scans so look a bit one-dimensional and boring...taking photos of your cards is so much more forgiving! ha ha.

Challenge #4 - Scrapbooking a Masculine Layout

I wanted an excuse to do some scrapbooking so I am going to be cheeky and make you all do some too! Here is the challenge: do a layout using the following sketch as a rough guide (feel free to add extra points of interest, journelling boxes, and of course a title).

I want us to do masculine layouts, preferably including our partner (or another man in our lives apart from our children). There are no restrictions on colour or embellishments however, if you're inspired to do a pink masculine layout with flowers, go with it! Have fun! Can't wait to see what you (and I) come up with.

I was very excited to be 'playing' in my craft room last night...it's been a long time coming! Sorry I'm so late with this entry, I'll catch up and then stay current. Promise!

The specific things that inspired me to do this card (from the Freedom catalogue pic) were the colours, the modern clean-lined simplicity, and the white lamp base shape. I added the word 'beauty' because this is my style of interior design.

Recipe: Whisper White cardstock as the base of the card, textured Creamy Caramel cardstock as background, Whisper White cardstock for the vase (covered in crystal effects for some shine), Old Olive cardstock crumpled slightly for the flower stems, and flowers from stamp set 'In the Spotlight' in Taken with Teal and Brilliant Blue markers. The ribbon is plain old 1/4" black grosgrain with silver cord over and the word 'Beauty' was composed of individual letters from the Urban West rub-ons. I used foam squares to attach the vase and finished the flowers off with 2 shiny brads from the pretties kit.

I had so much trouble getting a photo of this card! This photo, dodgy angle included, was the clearest by far, you couldn't even make out the word 'beauty' on some! I need to take lessons from Lisa on how to watermark my pics too. Is Photoshop Elements the best to buy??

Ok I'll go and have a cup of coffee while thinking about Challenge #3! Do I get to pick the next one? ;)

Challenge #3 Colour Challenge

I decided to do a colour challenge this time so that I can kill two birds with one stone. I needed to make a couple of girly cards so the challenge this week is to make a girly card using the colours Certainly Celery, Pretty in Pink and Whisper White. If you don't have these exact colours you can substitute with similar colours. I can't wait to see what you all come up with. Here is my first card.I have used all Stampin' Up! products for my card. I started with Whisper White Textured card stock for my main panel and stamped it with images from the Carte Postale stamp set (p94) in Certainly Celery and Pretty in Pink Ink. I then scored the panel at regular intervals to give some more texture using my paper cutter and scoring blade. I then attached the Ribbon from the retired "flirty" ribbon pack with glue dots to the front panel and attached the panel to the Certainly Celery card base with Dimensionals. For the butterfly I stamped the image from Touch of Nature on vellum card stock with Versamark and heat embossed it using white embossing powder and then cut it out and stuck it on the card using Dimensionals. The "welcome baby" sentiment comes from the very versitle set Short and Sweet (p 118, which is 20% off this month) and is stamped on whisper white with Pretty in Pink ink and then punched out using the small oval punch and mounted on the Pretty in Pink card stock that was punched out with the large oval punch. It was then stuck to the card with Dimensionals.

Here is a close up of the butterfly and the scoring lines. I saw the butterfly embossed like this on this blog here by Teneale Williams.

So now it is up to you to have a try.

Hi guys, Lisa here. This is my take on the challenge. I have taken the picture in the top left hand corner and re-created it for my card. I have used the following SU punches, Large Oval, small Oval, Word window, 1/2 " Circle and Designer Label. Cardstock - Sage Shadow, Taken with Teal, Mellow Moss, So Safron, Basic Black and Whisper White. Accessories - Dimensionals, Styled Silver Hodge Podge Hardware and brads.

Challenge #2 Inspiration Challenge

Hi everyone, Zarna here. It's my turn to set the challenge for the Cardinal's and I thought it would be fun to do an inspiration challenge a la Beate. You can take the colours or themes from the picture I found in the Freedom Spring Catalogue. The picture is just a jumping point to get you inspired, so go with whatever this picture tells you!

For my sample I have taken my inspiration from the picture on the wall. I decided to use Fall Flowers DSP as the combination of Soft Sky & Sahara Sand reminds me of the colours in the painting, I then decided to have a go at making a border using the word window punch and the Fall Flowers DSP.

I have also used the photo mats as pockets for the postcards that I wanted to include in this layout, but as the postcards were so gorgeous I wanted them to show a little so I made sure the pockets were small enough that you could see them peeking out.

Challenge #1 Water Colouring

Welcome to our first ever Cardinal Stampers Challenge. Today's challenge will be to make a card using water colouring techniques. You can use any type of water colouring you wish. You can use things like Water Colour Wonder Crayons, Watercolour Pencils, Ink or Markers with either Blender Pens or Aqua Painters. To link your creations simply leave a comment on this post with a link to your card on your blog. If you don't have a blog you can email me a picture of your creation to digitalfox1975@hotmail.com with the subject line "Challenge #1 Water Colouring" and I will put it up on the blog. You will have until Saturday the 27th to be included in the blog.

For my card I decided to give you a quick tutorial on how I water coloured my image. This is my first tutorial so I hope I make sense. Here goes.
Firstly I stamped the flower image from the Natural Beauty stamp set onto SU Water colour paper using StazOn ink so it won't bleed when I watercolour. I then punched out the image using my 1 1/4 " square punch.

I then got my Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive SU Watercolour Crayons and scribbled the colour onto the image. When water colouring, it helps to use the lightest colour first. Also if you want you can take the colour directly from the crayon with your Aqua Painter or Blender Pen.Then using my Aqua Painter I blended the colour remembering to wipe the brush on scrap paper or a cloth between colours. If you find it is getting too wet you can dab the wet areas with a tissue.Next I took my Bravo Burgundy water colour crayon and scribbled the colour onto the top half of the petal and then blended it into the Pumpkin Pie with the Aqua Painter.To finish off the card I punched 3 squares out of Old Olive cardstock using the 1 3/4" Square Punch and attached my water coloured images to them and then popped them up on dimensionals. My card base is Bravo Burgundy card stock stamped with the leaf image from the same set in Bravo Burgundy ink and the sentiment from Sincere Salutations has been stamped with versamark ink and embossed with white embossing powder. I have also used some Fall Flowers DSP, Pumpkin Pie Prints DSP and some Bravo Burgundy Grosgrain Ribbon. Well I hope you like my first mini tutorial and challenge and I look forward to seeing all of your creations.

You might recognise the layout of this card as it is on page 85 of the idea's book and catalogue. I used it as part of a challenge on another blog to use this sketch from the Catalogue. You can check out this challenge at Makessha Byl's Blog.

The following three cards are by Chenoa. She has used the Stampin' Pastels with water for her water colouring in the first two and the third one she has used Stampin' Write Markers with water on water colour paper. The 'Happy Birthday' message has been embossed using white embossing powder and the heat tool. She has also used the On Board 'Lots of Letters' chipboard from SU.This last one was a card I made for my Cousin and his Fiancé for their engagement. I forgot to take a photo of it before I gave it to them so thankfully they sent me this photo. For this card I have used ink and markers and an Aquapainter on water colour paper. You can see a tutorial using this technique here http://cambriaturnbow.blogspot.com/2008/06/watercoloring-for-cheaters.html and it was done by the talented Cambria Turnbow. As you can see on the ribbon I have also put the rub-on straight onto the ribbon. The Stampin' Up rub-ons are the easiest I have ever used. The ribbon is the Purely Pomegranate Satin Ribbon in the spring mini catalogue. The stampset is Bloomin' with Beauty and I have used the Holiday Harmony DS Paper which are also in the spring mini. The half pearls are from the pretties kit.Thanks to all that have participated.

Welcome to the home of the Cardinal Stampers. My name is Lisa Robb and I am an Independant Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and the "Cardinal Stampers" is the name of my newly formed group of Downlines. This blog is a place where my downlines and I can take turns in submitting challenges for each other and for anyone who wants to join in.

At this stage we are going to try and do a couple of challenges per month with the first one starting on Sunday the 21st of September. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing your take on our challenges so please feel free to leave a comment with a link to your creations.
